Electrification of the island of Mozia with trenchless technology

Quadrifoglio Drilling, a specialised company of the CEBAT group, has successfully completed a 1,348-metre horizontal directional drilling project for the electrification of the island of Mozia, in the Stagnone Lagoon (Sicily), an area of ​​significant environmental and archaeological value.

The project avoided the need to lay cable ducts on the seabed, adopting a trenchless solution that minimises the impact on the ecosystem and protects the infrastructure from erosion and human activity.

Activities included:

• Realisation of long distance HDD drilling (1,348 m) with high precision standards;
• Installation of HDPE pipe, intended for housing MV power cables and optical fibre
• Using advanced guidance systems, including ParaTrack™ Gyro, for track control.

The project will help provide cleaner, more reliable energy to the island, replacing existing diesel generators while preserving a unique environmental and cultural context.
